Summary
The Institute of Law coordinates and oversees research and fosters integration of legal professionals, both researchers and teaching-researchers, who work at the Faculty of Law in Warsaw, the Faculty of Law and Communication in Wrocław, and the Faculty of Psychology and Law in Poznań.
The Institute also coordinates publication activities. The most important initiative of the Institute in this field is a series Komentarze do Konstytucji RP [Commentaries to the Constitution of the Republic of Poland], composed of more than 50 tomes, at present almost completed. A significant portion of the series has been published by researchers grouped in the Institute (9 authors, in their number Professor Marek Chmaj as the author of 8 tomes and co-author of other 6 tomes, and Professor Hubert Izdebski, the author 10 tomes and co-author of the other one).
Moreover, the Institute manages SWPS University’s research budget earmarked for studies focused on the discipline of law, and monitors its spending.
The main goal of the Institute for the year 2025 is achieving the best possible evaluation marks in the consecutive assessment of research institutions, for the years 2021-2025, the result of the assessment for the years 2017-2020 having been the confirmation of the previously acquired power to grant doctoral and post-doctoral degrees.
The long-term goals are as follows:
- to increase the number of grants for law-related studies, provided by national granting bodies, and obtain European grants for studies conducted by interdisciplinary teams that include psychologists, sociologists and political scientists,
- to achieve the desired number of publications in foreign journals during the subsequent assessment periods,
- to establish research cooperation with foreign research centers that conduct studies, in particular, on human rights, medical law, European law, and law of new technologies.
Our team includes internationally acclaimed Polish lawyers, experts in various branches of law, researchers and legal practitioners as well.
