Summary

The Department of Telecommunications was established in February 1994 at the New Bulgarian University. Its full-time lecturers are proven specialists in the field of technical sciences and the professional field of "Communication and Computer Engineering". The training process includes prominent professionals from higher education institutions, state and private institutions and companies directly involved in the development of telecommunications in the country as external part-time lecturers. The Department prepares a new generation of telecommunications specialists with qualities for teamwork, knowledge and skills in the field of the most modern telecommunications systems and computer technologies, having leadership qualities and being able to cope with complex situations and make the right management decisions.
The main mission of the Department of Telecommunications is to provide training for students and doctoral students in bachelors, masters and doctoral programs in professional field 5.3 "Communication and Computer Engineering". The main task of the academic staff is to prepare highly qualified and broadly profiled specialists with solid general engineering training and in-depth knowledge of telecommunications and computer technologies, capable of analyzing and proposing solutions in the field of telecommunications, computer equipment and services.
To ensure an appropriate educational, creative, methodological and research environment, as well as to achieve successful realization of graduates, the Department of Telecommunications maintains and develops cooperation with leading companies engaged in the construction and maintenance of digital telecommunications infrastructure, mobile telecom operators, cable and satellite operators, data centers, digital content and service providers, transport and logistics companies, Internet providers, software companies, government departments and international organizations, associations and agencies for the development of telecommunications, cloud infrastructure operators and others in the field of digital security, entrepreneurship and innovation in digital services.
The Department provides a base for scientific and development activities and joint research and projects with Bulgarian and foreign universities, institutions, organizations and companies. Specialized teaching rooms (STR) and laboratories have been built for the educational, practical and scientific research work of the students at NBU at the Department. It is an established practice to attract doctoral candidates and students to the research teams.
Among the main priorities of the research policy of NBU are the transformation of the university into an international research center and its integration into numerous international university networks, the development of project activities, the development of interdisciplinary research and the integration of research and training.
The Department of Telecommunications is open to the external environment, organizing seminars, conferences, exhibitions, public appearances and implementing research projects, with which it connects education with practice. The Department maintains good interaction with business and ensures the implementation of educational practices and production internships in partner companies and organizations. The Department of Telecommunications has its own regular seminar, in which current topics from the relevant scientific field and professional direction are presented and discussed.
The Department is actively working on the development of the Telecommunications Yearbook, which reflects the scientific research and achievements of full-time lecturers, as well as external researchers and scientists. The publications in the Department's Yearbook are indexed in the global database of the Central and Eastern European Online Library (CEOOL) and recognizable in the system of the National Center for Information and Documentation (NACID).
