Summary
Eduard Marinov was born in Sofia in 1981.
He has a PhD in International Economics (Regional Integration in Africa, Varna Free University “Cherorizetz Hrabar”, 2015), Master’s degree in International Relations – European Union Law (Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, Universite Nancy 2, Universite Robert Schuman – Strasbourg, 2008) and a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration (Varna Free University “Cherorizetz Hrabar”, 2007), and a Specialist in Advanced European Legal Practice (Central European University, 2006) recieving an award for excellence in each degree. He is a semester graduate in Law (Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, 2004) and has participated in numerous specialization courses in various Humanities and Social sciences disciplines. Fluent in English, uses German and Russian.
Currently he is an Associate Professor in Economics Department at the New Bulgarian University and in the International Economics Department of the Economic Research Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Executive Director of the Public-Private Partnership Institute, guest-lecturer in Sofia University (African Studies), Editor at the Munich Personal RePEc Archive. He is the NBU Local coordinator of the European Reform University Alliance (ERUA).
His main field of academic interest are international economic relations. The specific areas of his research activity include international trade theory and integration theory, trends in international trade (specifically Bulgarian and Sub-Saharan African, as well as global developments), development economics, regional integration arrangements (with a special focus on African regional economic integration and the current processes of European integration mainly from Bulgarian perspective), economic development in Africa and the continent’s relations with the EU and Bulgaria specifically, international development cooperation. Besides these, his academic interests include also regional development (with a focus on Bulgarian regions’ place in the EU), sustainable development (with a focus on developing economies and SDGs implementation), recent developments in economic theory and scientific methodology.
He currently lectures (in Bulgarian and English) Introduction in Introduction to Economics, Microeconomics, Development Economics, International Trade, Geoeconomics and International Political Economy, EU Economic Policies, Strategic Marketing, International Marketing, Market Organization, Public Economics, Economic Development of Africa and has developed and taught courses in Macroeconomics, International Economics, International Business Negotiations, International Standards, Public Sector Economics, European Economic Integration, Marketing Forecasting and Planning, International Commodity and Stock Exchanges, Project Planning and Implementation, etc.
Dr. Marinov has over 110 scientific publications (monographs, handbooks, chapters in books, articles and conference papers) in Bulgarian, English and Russian, covering his wide scope of academic interests. He has taken part in over 50 scientific forums in Bulgaria and abroad. He holds two national scientific awards. Dr. Marinov is a member of the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria and of the Editorial Board of Eastern European Business and Economics Journal, the Economics and Business Yearbook of the NBU, Associate Editor of the Journal of African Development and and a reviewer for Economic Studies Journal, Journal of Management, Social Science and Humanities and the Net Journal of Social Sciences, Journal of Global Economics, Management and Business Research. Has over 250 citations in international studies.
In 2015 he received the Diploma of the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria for PhD thesis excellence for 2015 (for the thesis "Regional Economic Integration in Africa"), and in 2017 – the Diploma for excellent project in field “Man and Society” under the Joint Program of the Ministry of Education and Science "Supporting Young Scientists" for 2016 (for the project "Opportunities and Prospects for the Foreign Trade Relations of Bulgaria with the Sub-Saharan African Countries").
