Summary

- D+R+I Design, Renewal and Urban Innovation: (D+R+I) Design, Renovation and Urban Innovation. Research on urban and territorial reforms and transformations in the global society scenario that generate sustainable urban environments and spaces: rehabilitation strategies, regeneration strategies, complex functional offer strategies for the qualitative improvement of urban space, mobility strategies supported by the pedestrian city and in public transport, the optimization of urban infrastructures, ICTs and the introduction of technologies related to smart cities, resilient cities, renewable energy and participatory urban planning. Including the Research by Design (RbD) as a meeting point between knowledge production processes and architectural design processes.
- IS_LAB. Island as anthropocene laboratory: The phenomenon of the generalized urbanization of the world, its effects and dilemmas are especially visible in island contexts. An island integrates, in a concentrated way, all the tensions and needs that affect territories of another scale. The Atlantic archipelagos, such as the Canary Islands, Madeira, the Azores and Cape Verde, with its complex urbanization and population development, local and tourist, constitute real laboratories to investigate creative and experimentally ways of thinking and expressing new challenges in relation to the global and spatial phenomenon of global urbanization. At the same time the island are affordable contexts where to be able to rehearse methodological risk management programs in territorial planning and improvement of territorial resilience against vulnerability.
- Energy Efficient Structural Systems: Energetically efficient structural systems
- Revitalize the architectural heritage and integration of renewable energy: Revitalize architectural heritage that is in disuse and abandoned. It is essential to reuse this heritage in an active resource, since abandoned, inactive or in ruins is useless. It is necessary to find a balance between the social and economic use of the various buildings inherited from societies prior to ours incorporating renewable energy as an alternative measure aimed at improving the quality of life of people by providing them with guarantees for the enjoyment of future generations.
- AP Landscape Architecture: AP. Landscape architecture.
- Build the built: Build the built.
- Revaluation of waste materials: Re-valorization of waste and end-of-life materials for the manufacture of new composites: thermal, acoustical and mechanic improvement for their use in sustainable architecture.
- Sustainable concrete: Evaluate and compare the thermal, acoustic and mechanical properties of sustainable concretes, made from combinations of volcanic aggregates typical of Macaronesia archipelagos, scrap tyres and natural fibers of plant origin from the cultivation of autochthonous or invasive species.
- ARQPA. Architecture, heritage and participation: ARQPA. Architecture, Participation, Heritage
