- Appearance and development of the first producing societies: This research line focuses on the emergence of the first farming societies in the Near East, North Africa and Iberian Peninsula, addressing the study of the biological, cultural, technological and ideological aspects of this process. This line uses a multidisciplinary approach that includes Field Archaeology, Biomolecular Archaeology, Archaeotanatology, Archaeometry, Archaeobotany and Material Culture.
- Archeology of North Africa: Study of multiple chronological cultural context, since the Prehistory to archaeological evidence of the Maghreb populations in Islamic times
- Bioarcheology: This research line focuses on every topic related to the study of biotic evidence. The relationship between human bioarchaeology and burial practices to reveal insights from symbolic thought and ideology, subsistence strategies, and daily life conditions in past societies. It is also focused to the analysis of relationships between human beings and botanical and animal resources. We use a multi-disciplinaty approach including archaeobotany, archaeozoology, archaeothanatology, isotope analyses, ancient DNA and paleopathology.
- The Canary Islands Colonization Process in the Low Middle Ages: We analyze economical, social and cultural fenomena issued from the arrival of European Conquerors to the Canary Island, the interaction with aboriginal people and the creation and developpent ot the new colonial society.
- Material culture: We study processes related to the reconstruction of Chaînes Operatoires linked to the elaboration and use of tools and artefacts made in all kinds of raw materials.. We treat different cultural periods addressed to the reconstruction of the social production relationships
- Colonization and pre -European population of the Canary Islands: We treat the phenomenon of insular colonisation and settlement and its diachronical evolution until the arrival of European people. We emphasize land occupation, material culture, economy and symbolism.
