Summary

The aim of the Laboratory of Research on Practical Philosophy (L.R.P.Ph.), is the recognition and processing of issues related to the emergence, reconstruction, weaving, performance/(re)presentation of forms of philosophical thinking and acting in their meeting with the plural environments of education.

The main interest of the Laboratory concerns the research about the concept & forms of Practical Philosophy within contemporary academic and socio-political environments in a laboratory-experimental, interpretive, critical & dialogical way & with emphasis on complex issues (ethical, political, anthropological, aesthetical, intercultural, ecological, etc.).

Thus, the L.R.P.Ph. aims to design and implement processes that reinforce philosophical education, pedagogy, research and culture in their various forms. As philosophy is working on the terms that constitute her role in the history of ideas and human education, the emphasis here is given to the practical and applied dimension bringing the philosophical methodology, analysis and understanding on the threshold and at the crossroads of vital stakes.

Basic theoretical presupposition for such an effort and, at the same time, commitment to its effects, is the assessment that Practical Philosophy, as a philosophy also of praxis, is fundamentally connected on the one hand to the critical questions that people are called upon to address as well as the need to exercise critical ability against corrosive /soporific proliferation of both stereotypical perceptions and critical simulations.

Aiming to reinforce the philosophical education and research in regard to the various forms, through which it is possible for philosophy to appear in different, dynamic educational and social environments but also for the reinforcement of research attitude itself and its philosophy, the L.R.P.Ph. covers research and educational needs related to:

◼ Philosophical practices & practices of dialogue / discussion in multiple educational and social environments
◼ Philosophical education and culture
◼ The relationship of (practical) philosophy with the texts (and the body)
◼ The relationship of (practical) philosophy with the arts and the body (and texts)
◼ The confluence of (practical) philosophy to educational environments and public discourse
◼ The relationship between philosophy and performance
◼ Ethics and values as theory and practice. Applied ethics
◼ Pedagogy and ethics of thinking: complexity / critical thinking / creative thinking / care – Philosophy with children
◼ The anthropological and intercultural dimension of philosophy. Forms of alterity.
◼ The methodology of problematization
◼ The practical philosophy as a critical discourse

The L.R.P.Ph. invests in intercultural dynamic, as the dynamics of (practical) philosophy itself, distinct at all levels of its development: from the people who constitutes it (professors, researchers, external collaborators), to research collaborations, research projects and different activities (workshops, seminars / lectures, congresses, colloquia, conferences, biennale, exhibitions, performances, publications). In the L.R.P.Ph., the philosophical research is developed as a practice of crossing borders, subverting installations, creating new joints & constructions, a space-time of vital thinking, intercultural care, praxial impulses. Philosophical research as a constant movement, transforms the L.R.P.Ph. in an encounter place for researchers from different countries of the world (Africa, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Colombia, Cyprus, England, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Portugal, Taiwan, Turkey, United States).

The research projects of the L.R.P.Ph. have an educational dimension, as they attempt to stand out, the connection of research with practice, through the critical development of philosophical research as education and vice versa. All of its actions, as workshops, seminars, congresses, conferences, colloquia, are designed on the basis of this very connection. The synthesis of all levels of L.R.P.Ph’s activity and their research peak appears in the organization of the International Biennale of Practical Philosophy, while an imprint of the research and educational events in the L.R.P.Ph. can also be found in its international publications.
