Summary

- Creation of companies and SMEs: Entrepreneurship and SMEs. This line of research includes the study of all issues related to the process of recognizing a business opportunity and its implementation through the start up of a new venture. Specifically, we follow a cognitive approach to study the different antecedents of business creation, that is: the environment and its institutions, the entrepreneurs and their features, the business idea and the start-up. From a dynamic perspective, we also address the interactions that occur between these components. In particular, we focus on social networks and social capital, the learning process that occurs while the individual is starting up a new venture, and the specific industry challenges. Within this research line, we also study the problems faced by SMEs in the period after foundation and later, during the development and growth phases. We analyze here, specifically, the dynamic allocation of resources and business growth in local and foreign markets.
- Strategic Directorate and Internationalization: Strategic management and internationalization. Within this line of research we study the issues related to the strategy and the international business. First, we analyze formulation, implementation and the change of goals and strategies. Particularly, we address the strategic process and content from the new approaches in the strategic management field. We also analyze strategic management peculiarities in different contexts: education, health, sports, public sector, and commercial and financial sectors. With regard to the international business, we study two different but complementary areas. On the one hand, we analyze the internationalization process of the firm and the impact of different charateristics of the target markets, as well as how these peculiarities conditions firm's internationalization sucess. On the other hand, we pay attention to the analysis of the peculiarities of international business management such as strategy, multiculturalism, parent-subsidiary relationship or negotiation.
