Summary

- Mathematical models and techniques of Machine Learning for classification/segmentation/filtering/image analysis: This is a wide research line which aims to analyze several types of images/data by means of image processing techniques. The mathematical analysis of medical or satellite images requires reliable and fast methods to carry out tasks such as filtering, segmentation or classification. In the field of medical imaging, our goal is to improve the procedures to extract and analyze several structures from different image modalities, such as MRI, ultrasound, CAT or OCT. We collaborate with medical specialists to apply these techniques to different image modalities in order to help in the diagnosis of several pathologies of the breast, the aorta, the abdomen or the retina. Angiography is a particular image type which provides a description of the blood vessels. We analyze these images to perform measurements, detect abnormalities and obtain a 3D reconstruction of the structure.
- Computer vision and image treatment: Development of methods and techniques related to motion estimation in sequences of images, stereoscopic vision, 3D reconstruction of scenes, video stabilization, detection, tracking, and recognition of objects in images.
- Graphic computing: In this research topic we have worked on different projects, and several applications and software have been developed related to graphic visualization of data of different nature: 2D/3D vector and raster georeferenced data on geographic maps; creation of virtual globes for web and mobile devices; analysis, processing and visualization of massive point clouds; virtual and augmented reality, etc.
- Artificial Intelligence for Maritime Security and Smart Tourism: Development of applications that merge data from different sources such as optical and thermal PTZ cameras, radar, AIS systems, etc., embedded in NVIDIA systems for edge computing that allow us to develop AI strategies, supported by computer vision, automatic and deep learning, etc. , aimed to improve maritime safety, the safety of critical infrastructures and the management and intelligent and sustainable use of the coast and coastline.
