- Geology of the Canary Islands (Geoic): GEOIC do Geological Research on Oceanic Islands of Volcanic Origin and is mainly focus on the Canary Islands. Using mineralogical, petrologic and geochemistry techniques they try to understand the origin and evolution of magmatic and sedimentary rocks, which outcrop on these islands.
- Soil interaction - atmospheric dust (geodust): The primary and recurrent aim of this line of research (GEODUST) is Soil-Dust interaction. The main topics are:
- Marine and sedimentology geology (Geomar): This research area deals with two main objectives: Marine geology and sedimentological studies.
- Geomorphology and geology applied to engineering (Geoing): GEOING research field is focus on Geomorphology and Geology applied to Engineering. It includes three main topics: (a) Large landslides and its deposits, old and recent, and slope stability processes; (b) Sedimentology and Paleogeography of old marine deposits and Paleoclimate influence; and (c) Geotechnical characterization of volcanic terrains, mainly in the Canary Islands.
