Summary
- Antibiotic resistant bacteria infections: This line of research focuses on infections, their microbiological diagnosis and their multidisciplinary approach. In this line, we will study infections in different groups: the elderly, children, immigrants,... An important part of the line is the identification of multi-resistant bacterial strains that cause these infections, identifying mechanisms of resistance to antibiotics, with special interest in resistance of greater clinical impact, such as that due to Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamases (ESBL) and carbapenemases. We will also evaluate new therapeutic alternatives and health care and interventions.
- Bacterial physiology, molecular and multi -microbiology: This line of research focuses on the study of mechanisms mediating the formation of biofilms, with emphasis on those that are respiration-induced, and the analysis of the significance of these phenomena on bacterial physiology, especially in Shewanella spp. and other waterborne pathogens, inside or outside a host. We as well study the horizontal dissemination of antimicrobial resistance genes in bacterial communities and their composition, evolution and diversification.
- Geriatrics and Gerontology: This line of research focuses on nursing care for the elderly, including the nursing approach to health problems in the elderly, with special interest in infections. Likewise, the lines of work will include the analysis and evaluation of the knowledge, attitudes and practices of the nursing staff in the care of the health of the elderly.
- Antibiotic resistance: CARACTERIZACIÓN DE BETA-LACTAMASAS: The line of research has as objectives: the biochemical, molecular and epidemiological characterization of Beta-lactamase enzymes, the isolation, cloning, over-expression systems and sequencing of the genes coding for these enzymes; the production and purification process of the protein target; the study of the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters for the interaction between the ß-lactamase and their substrates or inhibitors; the study of structure- sctivity relationship of the ß-lactamase.
- Analysis of life habits and health interventions: This line of research focuses on the analysis of living habits and health interventions. We will investigate hygiene habits, diet, physical activity, substance use (alcohol and hookah tobacco), among others, and their influence on the presence of health problems in children and teenagers, including infectious diseases. Likewise, health interventions will be evaluated
- Nursing and Methodology Nursing Care: This line of research focuses on nursing care and nursing methodology. The work in this line is mainly aimed at nursing care in aging, dependency and immigrants, with special interest in infections in these groups.
